Metropolitana Compañía de Seguros, S.A. was a private insurance company operating in Nicaragua, which was authorized on November 22, 1996, under the Regulations of the Law of Insurance Institutions of Nicaragua and had been operating since January 1997, with the supervision and oversight of the Superintendence of Banks and Other Financial Institutions. Metropolitana was founded 20 years ago and began operations as the first private company to offer property and personal insurance, quickly positioning itself as the most reliable option in the market, being a pioneer and setting the standard with innovative products, accumulating assets of C$204,443.9 thousand as of December 2006.

Ten years after Metropolitana was founded, thanks to the loyalty of our clients, it continued to grow successfully on the basis of its basic values, which have allowed it to project itself with important participation in the Nicaraguan insurance market, maintaining the solidity that has always characterized us, with the excellence and passion for better serving our clients every day, accumulating premiums in the amount of C$161,708.8 thousand and assets of C$66,441.2 thousand in the 2006 period.

As of December 2006, Metropolitana had accumulated claim payments amounting to C$561,837.8 thousand, making it the insurer that has paid the largest claim in Nicaragua in the last ten years, such as the one caused by Hurricane Mitch for C$144,022.4 thousand, thanks to the adequate retention policy, reserves, and liquidity indexes and the support of our reinsurers.

Grupo ASSA, S. A. consolidated its holding of Metropolitana, Compañía de Seguros, S.A. by 99%. The insurer, under the direction of Mr. Giancarlo Braccio, obtained important profits in 2009, the best year since its foundation. It was also the fastest-growing insurance company in Nicaragua.

In 2010 we changed our name to ASSA Compañia de Seguros Nicaragua, which gives us international support and strengthens us as a company, furthering our passion, which is to serve you and continue to grow as an insurance company.
